The New York Knicks (16-16) will host the New Jersey Nets (9-24) tonight in what will be their fourth consecutive home game. Before losing to Milwaukee at home last night (85-92), the Nets stole won on the road beating the Chicago Bulls 97-85. The Nets are a struggling team, but they’ve shown some confidence as of late. With Brook Lopez making his season debut last night, the Nets could be a different team than the Knicks saw 2 weeks ago.
For the Knicks, the big story is Carmelo Anthony. He will return to the line-up tonight after missing 7 games with a groin injury. After weeks of speculation that Carmelo will ruin the chemistry of the team, tonight we will get to see for ourselves. The Knicks have won 8 of their last 9 games, coming off of a great one vs. the Dallas Mavericks, ending their six-game win streak. Look for the Knicks to come out tonight and make a statement.
Jeremy Lin and J.R. Smith are already showing theire chemistry on the court. Smith told reporters the advice Lin gave him pre-game…
Jeremy was telling me, ‘Every time you play this game, don’t do anything different. This is how we wanted you and this is why you’re here and keep playing your game and we don’t mind if you shoot the ball.’ And that’s what I did. That really helped me.”
J.R. brings a punch and an element to the game that we haven’t had. That combined with how we’ve been playing of late, and how balanced we are, it’s special and I felt it out there tonight.” – TYSON CHANDLER
He was huge. Everybody had their thoughts about what J.R. Smith would bring to the Knicks, and how he was going to play for us. I feel like he lived up to it. You see he wasn’t forcing. He was able to spread the floor, he was able to knock down big shots. And I think when we’re making shots, it just makes everybody’s job easier, and that’s what he does.” – STEVE NOVAK
Fields tweeted this shortly after the Knicks victory
There’s been a lot of controversy over the Knicks acquiring Smith. The main concern is that his attitude and sometimes “selfish” play will get in way of the main goal in sight, winning. This is what J.R. had to say about joining the Knicks..
It’s definitely a clean slate. I’m just really getting to know the coaches, getting to know the system, getting to know the people around the arena. I’m not the same 18-year-old kid that I was eight years ago. I mean, I’m a grown-man, 26 years old and ready to make big decisions for my life and make the best decisions for my teammates.”
Actions speak louder than words, so we’ll have to see how it plays out, but I think J.R. started off on a good note. He showed growth, improvement and a new found ability to share the ball. It could mean very good things…

After taking a couple of tough falls in today’s game (vs. DAL), Tyson Chandler has injuries to his wrist and backbone. Thankfully his x-rays came back negative and we can take in a sigh of relief.
He still may be questionable for tomorrows game vs. the Nets as Ian Begley of ESPN NY said Chandler told him he’s as banged up as he’s been all year.
