According to the Chicago Tribune, The Bulls will sign veteran point guard, Mike James, on Thursday April 5th, and solidify their roster for the upcoming playoff run. I’m surprised the Bulls have not signed him sooner to give the banged up C.J. Watson some rest. Thibodeau mentioned after practice today that he may rest Watson during practices for the remainder of April to give him extra rest to aid a lingering ankle and elbow sprain in time for the playoffs. In the 8 games he appeared in for Chicago this season, he averaged a respectable 11 minutes, 5 points and 3 assists per game.

For the third time this season, Mike James has been called upon by the Chicago Bulls for his point guard services. The Bulls first signed him from the D-League when Derrick Rose went out with a toe injury and was released when Rose returned to the lineup. He was signed a second time when Rose went out with back spasms. Again, he was let go when Rose came back. This time around, it is assumed Mike James is here to help out in the back court with Rose vs. the Heat, as John Lucas had a hard time adjusting to the bigger Heat players last time around and additionally C.J. Watson is uncertain for tonight. However, it became known today that for the second day in a row, Rose did not participate with the team in shoot around. Coach Thibodeau addressed the issue yesterday saying Rose was sitting out to “rest” from normal “wear and tear”, however, it has been reported that Rose suffered a groin injury after hitting the deck in the Knicks game the other night and will be a game time decision tonight. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available regarding Rose’s availability tonight.

As we reported earlier, Derrick Rose appeared on Waddle & Silvy, where he told them: “I’m good, I’m completely better. I’m not worried about any injuries right now”.
As the day went on, we learned that he is not really completely better. He did not participate in practice today because of soreness and normal “wear and tear” according to Thibodeau who also noted he expected him to play vs. Miami. Hours later, Rose was involved in a fender bender, turned down medical attention and insisted he was fine. Now reports are surfacing slowly from Chicago Tribune reporter K.C. Johnson who says Rose was seen limping away from the team’s film session (pre-accident): “The pain emanated from what sources said is soreness in the groin area that needed a Tuesday MRI exam and could sideline Rose on Wednesday“. In addition to this, Mike James, the point guard who has played on and off from the D-League for the Bulls, tweeted “I guess 3rd times a charm. That’s what they say!!” in what seems to be a reference to returning to the Bulls.
Take this for what it is. I don’t see Rose missing tomorrow’s game for anything. As for Mike James, I believe he may be getting the call up for C.J. Watson who is still not 100%. Thibodeau would trust the bigger, stronger Mike James over John Lucas who didn’t fit into the game plan last time vs. the Heat.

Mike James, who helped the Bulls tremendously when injuries plagued Derrick Rose and CJ Watson, has been released from the team after being with the team on a 10-day non-guaranteed contract. He also played on a 10 day contract with the Bulls for three weeks in January when Rose was out with turf-toe, and was picked up again on Valentine’s Day. His fight, determination, and basketball I.Q. that only a veteran can possess will be missed – but Thibodeau did add that there is a chance he will be re-signed later in the year. He’s been a contributor every time his name has been called and I’m surprised the Bulls didn’t keep him this time around.
In his most recent stint, he will be remembered for the re-match game in Chicago vs. Boston. Rose was out and Watson struggled getting into an offensive flow, so James was inserted in the game and worked magic as the Bulls facilitator – and he’d only been with the team for 2 days.

According to Marc Stein of ESPN, Mike James has been re-signed to a non-guaranteed ten day contract with the Bulls. He was with the Bulls January 11th to January 28th. He was brought up from the D-League when Derrick Rose missed five games with turf toe. Although Rose says he is feeling better, he will sit out tonight. The last NBA game Mike James played with the Bulls, he logged 17 minutes and posted 10 points and 9 assists against the Charlotte Bobcats. I’m glad to see him back, and hope the Bulls keep him for the year, he has a very good veteran mentality and is good for the championship aspiring team. Welcome back Mike James!
