In a game for the gold medal, USA didn’t exactly run away with it, but they kept their composure and closed the game. See how Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler contributed to the 107-100 victory over Spain to capture the gold:
In a neck and neck game for the gold medal, Carmelo Anthony didn’t have an explosive game, but was able to contribute to the 107-100 win over Spain. Two quick fouls would send Anthony to the bench in the second quarter as he would finish the first half with a solid 8 points (3-6 FGA-M), 2 rebounds and an assist. He would check back in with just 3 minutes remaining in the third quarter, but unfortunately was unable to make an impact on the game. With 6 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, and the U.S. lead just 4 points, Carmelo had an agressive tip out which led to a crucial Durant 3 giving the team a 93-86 lead. Following that play, Anthony had a couple of opportunities to knock down wide open 3′s and break the game open, but was unable to connect, going scoreless in the second half. Upon shooting a corner 3, Carmelo landed awkwardly on his defenders foot and would appear to be hurt as he limped on the court. Coach K subbed LeBron James in his place as Carmelo Anthony would finish the game with 8 points (3-9 FGA-M, 5 rebounds and 3 assists in 21 minutes to earn his 3rd Olympic medal- 2 gold, 1 bronze.
In just 9 minutes, Tyson Chandler was yet again a no show as Kevin Love continued to dominate down low with another near double-double (9 points, 9 rebounds). Aside from starting the game and the second half, Chandler didn’t see any quality minutes during today’s gold medal game. As he started the third, he was able to contribute with an agressive tip out but Love would soon check in for him after just 3 minutes of play. Chandler has just 2 points and 1 rebound in the 7-point victory over Spain.
