Carmelo Anthony is fully aware of his role coming off of the bench, and he played it beautifully today as Team USA was in dire need. Getting off to a slow start, Coach K utilized his bench early, subbing in a new five with 2 minutes remaining in the 1st quarter. Along with the subs, Anthony immediately provided energy as he knocked down a straight on 3, the team’s first of the game. He shot a perfect 2-2 from the field for 7 points in the first half, and would deservingly earn the start to begin the 3rd quarter. Carmelo started the second half with persistent defense, and his steal would lead to an easy Iguoadala fast break bucket. An aggressive hoop in transition would give him a hot hand and he continued to knock down shots, including his second 3 of the game. Anthony finished the game shooting an impressive 6-6 FGA-M for 16 points (tied for team-high) and 2 rebounds

Tyson Chandler kicked off the game with a long tip-out, his specialty. But along with the starting 5, Chandler’s play was a bit lackadaisical. A couple of missed rebounds, poor transition defense, and a lack of intensity would force Coach K to go to the bench early. Chandler would not start the second half, but when he entered the game, he certainly picked it up. He shot a perfect 3-3 from the field for 6 points, 6 rebounds and a block before heading to the bench due to a minor injury. The injury came as Chandler contested a shot and hit his hand on the back of the rim. As far as we know, it’s nothing major.
