Courtney Lee wasn’t even on the market for an hour, and the Bulls had already reached out to him – according to the Chicago Tribune. Lee did not receive a qualifying offer from the Houston Rockets – who are seeking big things in free agency, they’ve already offered Bulls’ backup center Omer Asik and 3yr/25.1 million dollar deal and have plans to meet with New York Knicks standout point guard, Jeremy Lin, tomorrow.
Reports linked the Bulls to Courtney Lee back in February 2011, where they ironically tried to get a deal done involving sending Omer Asik to the Rockets in exchange for the young shooting guard. A year and a half later, and Chicago still needs help at that 2-guard slot. Now they’ll have a decent shot at Lee who is already drawing interest from Clippers, Pacers, Mavs and Wizards according to Yahoo! Sports. Things can now get interesting with Asik and Lee now in the Houston/Chicago mix together. If the Bulls decide they don’t want to match the Rockets offer, they can facilitate a deal for a sign and trade sending Lee to the Bulls in exchange for Asik. Lee averaged 11 points and 3 rebounds in his 4th year as a pro.
