As the clock struck midnight and the free agency frenzy began, restricted free agent Omer Asik, was in Los Angeles to meet with Houston Rockets GM, Daryl Morey. According to reports, Houston may offer Asik a deal that pans out to $8 million a year. Teams can only offer $5 million for the first to years, but can back end the deal with more money over additional years. Therefore, if true, the Rockets can offer Asik a 4 year deal of $5, $5, $11, $11 – or something very similar. That will be a difficult deal for the money strapped Bulls to match. Daryl Morey took to Twitter to encourage fans to Tweet “#Asik2Houston” for the big man to see. Apparently, the Rockets are very high on the Turkish Hammer.
Yahoo! Sports reported that Asik would meet with Portland Trail Blazer officials after his Houston meeting to make an undisclosed offer.
