When Baron Davis fell to the floor in Game 4, you couldn’t help but think it would be his last game in the NBA, but don’t count him out just yet. It’s been nearly 50 days since Davis underwent successful surgery to repair a partial tear of his right patella tendon and complete tears of the right anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments, and though he’s expected to miss all of next season, he hopes to re-sign with the Knicks come 2013. 

Baron Davis made an appearance at Dyckman Park last night in New York City where he spoke to a small group of reporters about his future. 

“I hope I return. I want to come back. I want to be a Knick for the rest of my career. … Playing in the Garden and the people, the fans. I feel like New York is the mecca of basketball. This was the best stage, for who I am, to give back to the community and play for a top-notch organization.”

The 33-year-old also noted that whenever he does return, he would be more than happy to backup Jeremy Lin who he said deserves to be the current starter. ”He’s proven he can handle the job. I think he has proven himself.”

The road ahead is long for Baron Davis, but the gut feeling fans had telling them he wouldn’t go out this way, seems a bit more realistic now. When he does recover, and he will, the Knicks would be lucky to have him back.
