Rusty Simmons, of the San Francisco Chronicle is a member of the media attending the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago this week. Simmons, who covers the Golden State Warriors sent out a tweet listing a few things overheard by sources at the Combine. Simmons reports that C.J. Watson’s contract is not expected to be picked up by the Chicago Bulls for the 2012-2013 season. The Bulls hold a team option and must decide by July 10 – and as reports start to leak out, it’s not looking good for the Rose’s 2 year back-up. If the Bulls decide to let him go, they must bring in a starter, and rumblings have already begun surrounding FA veterans Jason Kidd and Steve Nash. If neither of those PG’s sign a Bulls offer sheet, the following free agents who can run the point are available this summer:
Kirk Hinrich (Atlanta Hawks)
Keyon Dooling (Boston Celtics)
Delonte West (Dallas Mavericks)
Andre Miler (Denver Nuggets)
Nate Robinson (Golden State Warriors)
Earl Boykins (Houston Rockets)
Goran Dragic (Houston Rockets)
Chauncey Billups (LA Clippers)
Mike Bibby (New York Knicks)
Jamal Crawford (Portland Trailblazers)
Raymond Felton (Portland Trailblazers)
As you can see the list is pretty thin, so the Bulls will have a lot of scenarios to look at. Will they go hard at a more expensive and experienced floor general such as Kidd or Nash and by doing so let go of Watson/Ronnie Brewer/Kyle Korver to clear cap room. Or will they look at the flip side and pick up a cheaper and semi-experienced player in maybe Nate Robinson or Mike Bibby? Or will they completely surprise us and go the less experienced route and reach into the draft? So many questions that we will be given answers to in due time. This summer is going to be a frenzy.
