As Iona’s starting point guard, Scott Machado led his team to a phenomenal season- leading the nation in assists at 9.9. Aside from being the highest scoring team in the country, the Iona Gael’s obtained the No. 14 seed in this year’s NCAA tournament, but just when their first game appeared to be a sure win, the Gael’s blew a 25 point lead- losing to BYU in the first round (72-28).
The Queens native is fully aware of the need for guards in New York, saying, “As far as the opportunity here, it’s a wonderful spot, they have a lot of pieces. Somewhere they need to grow solid in is the point guard spot. That’s my opinion. I feel like it’s a good opportunity for any point guard.”
