AmareUMM1 Amare Stoudemire Enrolls At The University Of Miami

Amar’e Stoudemire began the off-season by doing something most of us didn’t see coming- enrolling in college. On May 15th, the Florida native enrolled at the University of Miami, just east of his hometown, Lake Wales (FL). When Amar’e bypassed the University of Memphis and declared for the NBA draft, he not only gave up the chance to play college ball, but the chance to earn a college degree.

Stoudemire will pursue a Bachelor of General Studies through a combination of online and on-campus coursework, the same way as the other students in the BGS program.

“It’s all about education. I’m doing this because I know that, at any point in life, it is important to keep learning,” responded Stoudemire, when asked about the decision to continue his education.

Other professional athletes among the UM alumni include Ray Lewis, Michael Irvin, Rick Barry and Ryan Braun.
